Performances

History Day
A student in the performance category prepares to present her project.

Each performance may be 10 minutes in length. Be sure to use all of the time allotted to you.

Backdrops and props can be as elaborate as you choose to make them; however, some of the most effective ones are the simplest. Keep in mind that you have to carry them and set them up yourself. This is a good thing to keep in mind as you are designing your set. I strongly discourage you from creating sets that require special needs. For instance, one year students created special lighting for their project that required complete darkness to be effective. When they arrived at the national competition, most of the competition venues had sky lights or huge windows that could not be covered, preventing effective use of the lights. Many times the competition venues will be small classrooms or even hallways. Remember this as you design sets and as you block your performance. You may have only a small area in which to perform. Prepare yourself to adapt to the circumstances.
